Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 F and line a baking sheet.

  2. Activate yeast by mixing dried yeast, sugar, and 1/4 cup lukewarm water; let foam for 10 minutes.

  3. Combine flour, butter, and salt in a bowl. Add the foamed yeast and stir until combined.

  4. Gradually add remaining lukewarm water, mixing until a soft, non-sticky dough forms.

  5. Knead the dough for 6-8 minutes with a stand mixer or 4-5 minutes by hand until smooth and stretchy.

  6. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let proof in a warm spot for 1 hour until doubled.

  7. Scrape dough onto a floured surface, quickly knead to remove air, then shape into a loaf.

  8. Place the loaf on the prepared baking tray, cover with a damp towel, and proof for another hour.

  9. Before baking, sprinkle flour on the loaf, gently rub it in, and slash the surface with a sharp knife to create a diamond pattern.

  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes until golden brown and hollow when tapped.

  11. Cool the baked bread on a rack before serving.
