Hi, I'm Cam. I'm a software engineer by day and aspiring home chef by night, and I built this site to solve a very specific problem.

I love to cook, but I am constantly exhausted by the state of modern recipe websites. Most of the time I'm just looking for a list of ingredients and the number to preheat the oven to. Yet with every Google search I am forced to scroll through a probably-made-up 10,000-word essay about someone's autumn trip to visit their grandmother in Tuscany, littered with ads after every other sentence, because every recipe site apparently exists just to generate ad revenue and not to, you know... give you the recipe. I don't need to know when, where, and why the dish was invented. I don't need pointers for how to select fresh fruit and vegetables in the store, and I definitely don't need to be reminded (in the form of another ad-filled essay) that I can store leftovers in the fridge and reheat them later.

I know ad blockers exist, but I'm tired of the constant arms race between users, browsers, and site owners. I know there are tools that allow you to extract a short-form recipe from a URL, and I know you can usually just hunt for the "Print" button to get something similar. But, hear me out... What if you just didn't have to think about any of that stuff? What if there were a recipe site you actually wanted to look at, instead of looking for shortcuts and plugins to make it usable? That's exactly what I set out to build here.

Flavor Equations is the antidote to the modern recipe blog.

There is no content designed to get you to scroll through as many ads as possible, no life stories, no fluff. There is also no mailing list, no account creation, no data to be leaked in a cyberattack, and no "freemium" features to buy a subscription for. While you may see a few affiliate links or ads to help keep the site running, my promise to you is that they will never stand between you and your dinner. You just get the ingredients, the instructions, and a clean interface that respects your time.

My hope is that the architecture this site is built upon (a detailed technical write-up is coming soon!) can serve as a template for other recipe sites to follow, proving that hosting costs can stay incredibly low and that it isn't necessary to overwhelm users with aggressive monetization tactics just to keep your site running.

And in the interest of full disclosure: to make a site this fast and lightweight, I had to treat recipes like a data problem. I pull raw ingredient lists from various corners of the internet, and then use AI as an editorial tool to strip out the fluff, generate the concept photography, and standardize the instructions. Which is to say, while the images are entirely AI-generated, the actual recipes are not hallucinated, just reformatted in my personal writing style. This ensures that, among other things, crucial steps like boiling water or preheating the oven are always exactly where they belong: at the very top. I'm currently serving over 9000 of these hand-tuned recipes, with more being added every day.
