Whole Grilled Onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare a grill with medium indirect coals.

  2. Peel onions, trim roots for stability, then core each to create a 1-inch cavity without piercing the bottom.

  3. Season onion cavities with salt and pepper, fill each with 1 tablespoon of butter, and lightly season the exterior.

  4. Tightly wrap each prepared onion in foil.

  5. Cook on the closed grill for 1 to 1 1/2 hours over indirect heat.

  6. Untwist foil tops and open them 10 minutes before serving, then remove from grill to a platter.
