Instructions

  1. Combine watermelon, lime juice, and sugar in a blender; puree until smooth.

  2. Strain the puree through a fine mesh sieve into a large bowl, pressing to extract all liquid; discard the pulp.

  3. Pour the strained watermelon juice into a 9x13-inch casserole dish, cover, and freeze for at least 4 hours or until solid.

  4. Scrape the frozen granita with a fork to form fine crystals.

  5. Serve, garnished with lime zest or basil if desired.
