Preheat oven to 325 F.

Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then blend in flour, walnuts, salt, and vanilla to form a smooth dough.

Roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness, cut into crescent shapes, and reroll any scraps.

Bake cookies on parchment-lined sheets for 10-12 minutes, or until set.

Let hot cookies stand for 2 minutes, then roll them in confectioners' sugar and transfer to wire racks to cool.

Once completely cooled, re-roll cookies in sifted confectioners' sugar before storing.
