Vegan Old Bay Tofu "Fish" Cakes

Old Bay seasoned, lightly breaded, and fried, these vegetarian patties offer a flavorful alternative to seafood cakes.

Instructions

  1. Saute onions and carrots until soft, then add garlic and cook for one minute; set aside to cool.

  2. In a large bowl, combine crumbled tofu, cornstarch, nutritional yeast, dry white wine, 1 teaspoon salt, white pepper, and lime juice; stir in the cooled sautéed vegetables and chill for 30 minutes.

  3. Prepare three separate bowls: one with breadcrumbs, Old Bay seasoning, and 1 teaspoon salt; another with flour; and a third with soy milk.

  4. Form 1/4 cup portions of the tofu mixture into patties, then dredge each patty in flour, dip in soy milk, and coat thoroughly with the seasoned breadcrumbs; chill for 30 minutes.

  5. Heat a thin layer of oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook the chilled patties for 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown.

  6. Serve the patties with a tartar or cocktail sauce.
