Vegan Doughnuts

Instructions

  1. Warm milk to 105 F.

  2. Combine warm milk, 1 teaspoon sugar, and yeast in a mixer; let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.

  3. Add remaining sugar, vegan butter, flour, and salt; mix until a soft dough forms.

  4. Knead the dough for 5 minutes, adding flour as needed, then transfer to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled.

  5. Roll dough on a floured surface to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into desired shapes, re-rolling scraps as needed.

  6. Place cut doughnuts on a parchment-lined sheet and allow to rise again for 45 minutes until doubled.

  7. Heat 1.5 to 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet to 350 F.

  8. Fry doughnuts, a few at a time, for about 1.5 minutes per side until golden, then remove and drain.

  9. Allow doughnuts to cool completely before glazing or filling.
