Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 F.

  2. Whisk flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and cocoa in a small bowl; set aside.

  3. Cream margarine and brown sugar; mix in molasses.

  4. Combine half of the dry mixture with the wet ingredients and baking soda mixture, then add the remaining dry mixture.

  5. Chill dough, covered, for at least 1 hour.

  6. Form 1 1/2-inch dough balls, roll in sugar, and place on a cookie sheet.

  7. Bake for 13 to 15 minutes until surfaces crack slightly.
