Vanilla Sugar Cookies

A versatile butter-based vanilla sugar cookie dough can be rolled out for cut shapes or prepared as sliced icebox cookies.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F.

  2. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.

  3. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then mix in egg and vanilla until well blended.

  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing on low speed until combined; chill dough for 15-20 minutes if too soft.

  5. Roll out half the dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into desired shapes.

  6. Arrange cut cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and chill for at least 10 minutes to firm.

  7. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until edges are lightly browned.
