Ultimate Cinnamon Rolls With Vanilla Frosting

Instructions

Dissolve yeast in warm water for 10 minutes.

Scald milk, then pour over shortening in a large bowl.

Stir in sugar and salt, then cool the mixture.

Incorporate the dissolved yeast and beaten egg.

Gradually add flour, mixing until the dough is soft but firm.

Knead dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.

Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 90 minutes or until doubled.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease baking pan(s).

Roll dough into a 16x10-inch rectangle.

Brush with melted butter, then spread with brown sugar, cinnamon, and optional raisins.

Roll the dough tightly from a long end.

Cut the log into about 14 pieces, each 1 to 1.5 inches thick.

Place slices in the greased pan, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, tenting with foil after 15 minutes if rolls brown too quickly.

Cool for 5 minutes, then transfer rolls to a serving plate.

Combine confectioner's sugar, butter, and vanilla; gradually add milk until the mixture is thick.

Spread the icing over the warm rolls.
