Turnip Greens With Bacon

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly rinse turnip greens in cold water until free of grit; remove thick stems and chop the leaves.

  2. Dice bacon into 1-inch pieces.

  3. In a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat, cook diced bacon until it browns and renders fat; add onions and cook until softened.

  4. Stir in minced garlic, black pepper, and red pepper flakes; cook for 1 to 2 minutes.

  5. Gradually add chopped turnip greens, allowing each addition to wilt slightly, then pour in chicken broth and bring the mixture to a boil.

  6. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 45 to 60 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  7. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt as needed, then serve.
