Turkish-Style Revani Semolina Cake Steeped in Syrup

Preheat the oven to 350 F (175 C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.

Prepare the syrup: combine sugar and water in a medium saucepan, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes; add lemon juice and let cool completely.

In a large bowl, whisk eggs and sugar until dissolved.

Add oil, lemon zest, vanilla, and yogurt, whisking until combined.

Stir in flour, semolina, hazelnuts, baking soda, and baking powder until a smooth batter forms.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, until the top is browned and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Let the cake rest for 5 minutes, then cut into portion-sized pieces while still in the pan.

Slowly drizzle all of the cooled syrup over the warm cake; cover with foil and refrigerate for several hours.

Garnish each serving with coconut and ground nuts before serving.
