Tuna Macaroni Casserole

Preheat oven to 350 F and grease a 2-quart casserole with 1 teaspoon of butter.

Cook macaroni until al dente in salted boiling water, then drain and rinse.

Melt 4 tablespoons butter in a large saucepan; sauté onion and bell pepper for 3-4 minutes until tender.

Stir in flour, 3/4 teaspoon salt, and pepper; cook for 1-2 minutes.

Whisk in milk and condensed soup, cooking over low heat until the sauce is smooth and thick.

Add cooked macaroni, peas, flaked tuna, and half of the cheese to the sauce, stirring well.

Transfer the mixture to the prepared casserole dish and top with the remaining cheese.

Combine 2 tablespoons butter with breadcrumbs until sandy, then scatter over the cheese layer.

Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the topping is browned.
