Instructions

  1. Heat enough vegetable oil in a pot over medium heat for deep-frying.

  2. Combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a bowl.

  3. Stir in warm water and vegetable oil to form a soft dough.

  4. Cover the dough and let it rise for an hour until doubled.

  5. Mix the risen dough again, then let it rest for 10 minutes.

  6. Scoop dough into the hot oil using two spoons if needed. Fry until golden brown, turning halfway, ensuring a medium flame to cook thoroughly.

  7. Remove magwinya and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve immediately, optionally with jam and sugar.
