Traditional Rolled Burek (Borek) Recipe

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375F.

  2. Heat oil in a large frying pan.

  3. Sauté onion until soft, then add ground beef, allspice, paprika, salt, and pepper.

  4. Cook meat until crumbly, then cool completely.

  5. Lay out one phyllo dough sheet, keeping remaining sheets covered.

  6. Brush sheet with melted butter, then place 1/3 cup meat mixture 2 inches from one long edge.

  7. Fold dough over meat, roll into a snake, cut in half, and coil each piece into a snail shape.

  8. Place coiled rolls on a nonstick baking sheet, brush with butter, and repeat until all meat is used.

  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden.
