Traditional Pear Butter
A simple pear butter made with three ingredients, offering preparation options via stove, slow cooker, microwave, or oven, and suitable for freezing or canning.

Instructions

In a saucepan, combine pears and water, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the pears are softened.

Pass the softened pears through a sieve or food mill to create a smooth puree.

Mix the pear puree with sugar to taste.

Transfer the sweetened puree to a slow cooker, leaving the lid partially ajar; cook on low heat, stirring occasionally, for 6-12 hours until thickened and it no longer drips from a spoon.

To store, refrigerate for up to three weeks or freeze for up to one year.

For canning, fill hot sterilized jars with the hot pear butter, leaving 1/4 inch headspace, then seal with hot lids and rings.

Process the sealed jars in a water bath for 10 minutes, then cool completely before storing.
