Traditional Irish Wheaten Bread (Brown Soda Bread) Recipe

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 F (200 C).

  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and baking soda; then mix in buttermilk to form a loose dough.

  3. Lightly flour a work surface, turn out the dough, and knead until smooth. Shape it into a 2-inch thick ball and slash an X on top.

  4. Place the dough on a greased baking sheet and bake for 30 to 35 minutes until risen and light brown.

  5. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
