Traditional Cubano Sandwich

A classic Cuban sandwich delivers a delicious combination of grilled ham, pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard, and Cuban bread.

Instructions

  1. Heat a griddle or heavy pan to medium.

  2. Slice Cuban bread: quarter a loaf and halve each quarter horizontally, or halve individual loaves lengthwise.

  3. Spread mustard on one bread half and mayonnaise on the other for each sandwich.

  4. Layer ham, pork, Swiss cheese, and pickles on one bread half, then top with the other.

  5. Lightly spray the griddle, place sandwiches, then press with a heavy skillet (or foil-wrapped brick) to 1/3 original thickness; grill for 1 to 2 minutes per side until golden and cheese is melted.

  6. Slice diagonally and serve.
