Peel, core, and chop 1 pound of apples, then mix them with a pinch of ground cinnamon and 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar. Arrange the mixture in a shallow baking dish (e.g., 9x7 inches).

In a bowl, combine 6 ounces of all-purpose flour and 4 ounces of granulated sugar. Cut 4 ounces (1/2 cup) of cold unsalted butter into small pieces and rub them into the flour mixture until coarse, or pulse in a food processor.

Evenly sprinkle the prepared topping over the apples in the dish. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 30 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the apples are bubbling. Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes before serving with custard or vanilla ice cream.
