Toasted Sesame Seed Cookies

Buttery sesame seed cookies are prepared with vanilla and toasted sesame seeds, then rolled in additional seeds for an enhanced flavor and texture.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper.

  2. Toast sesame seeds in a heavy skillet over medium heat until golden brown, then remove and set aside.

  3. Combine flour, sugar, butter, water, baking powder, vanilla, salt, and egg in a large bowl, beating with an electric mixer until well blended.

  4. Fold 1/2 cup of the toasted sesame seeds into the dough.

  5. Form 2-teaspoon portions of dough into 2-inch ovals, then roll each cookie in the remaining toasted sesame seeds.

  6. Arrange the rolled cookies one inch apart on the prepared baking sheets.

  7. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until lightly browned.

  8. Transfer cookies to wire racks to cool. Store cooled cookies in an airtight container for up to one week.
