The Ultimate Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Instructions

  1. Heat a nonstick or well-seasoned skillet over medium-low heat.

  2. Spread softened butter evenly on one side of two bread slices.

  3. Place one buttered slice butter-side down in the skillet. If desired, spread 1/2 teaspoon mustard on the bread, then mound half the cheese and any optional fillings.

  4. Spread 1/2 teaspoon mustard on the unbuttered side of the remaining bread slice, then place it butter-side up on the cheese.

  5. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown, then flip and cook for 2 to 3 minutes more until the second side is browned and cheese is melted, adjusting heat as needed.

  6. Remove the sandwich and repeat the process for additional sandwiches.
