If choosing to steam mushrooms, start boiling water for the steamer.

Clean and prepare mushrooms as desired.

To sauté, cook mushrooms in a pan with butter or oil over high heat, stirring until cooked and liquid evaporates, about 5 minutes.

Alternatively, to steam, soak mushrooms in a solution of lemon juice, citric acid, and water for 5 minutes, then steam them for about 5 minutes.

Spread the cooked mushrooms onto a baking sheet and allow them to cool to room temperature.

Freeze the mushrooms on the baking sheet for approximately 20 minutes until solid.

Pack the frozen mushrooms into labeled freezer-safe containers or bags, leaving a half-inch headspace, then return them to the freezer.
