Instructions

  1. Combine 2 ounces whiskey, 3/4 ounce lemon juice, and 1/2 to 3/4 ounce simple syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

  2. If using egg white, combine ingredients in an empty shaker, dry shake for 30 seconds, then add ice.

  3. Shake vigorously until well chilled.

  4. Strain into a chilled sour glass or over fresh ice in an old-fashioned glass.

  5. Garnish with a maraschino cherry or lemon peel.
