Teriyaki Sauce

A homemade sweet and savory Japanese-style teriyaki sauce can be prepared in 15 minutes, ideal for pairing with chicken, beef, or seafood.

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1/2 cup mirin, and 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, adjusting sugar to taste.

  2. Stir in 1 teaspoon each of finely chopped fresh ginger root and garlic, if desired, over medium-high heat.

  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to low and simmer for a few minutes until slightly thickened.

  4. Remove the pan from heat and allow the teriyaki sauce to cool.

  5. Strain the sauce to remove ginger and garlic pieces, if they were added.
