Tangy Braised Cabbage With Apples and Onions

A sweet and tart braised cabbage, infused with apple, cider, and jelly, makes an excellent accompaniment for pork or ham dishes.

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium-low heat.

  2. Add onion and apple; cook, stirring, for 7 to 10 minutes until soft.

  3. Stir in cabbage, black pepper, vinegar, and preserves or jelly.

  4. Cover tightly and simmer on low heat for 1 to 1 1/2 hours until cabbage is very soft.

  5. Taste and add salt as needed.
