Instructions

  1. Combine egg, 1/3 cup milk, and breadcrumbs in a bowl.

  2. In a skillet, cook onions in 2 tablespoons butter until lightly browned; let cool slightly.

  3. Add cooled onions, salt, pepper, ground beef, and ground pork to the egg mixture, then shape into 1-inch meatballs.

  4. Using the same skillet, cook the meatballs over medium heat, browning all sides. Add 2 tablespoons water, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.

  5. Remove meatballs, leaving 1 tablespoon of drippings in the skillet. Stir in 2 tablespoons flour, then gradually whisk in 1 1/2 cups milk and 1/2 cup heavy cream.

  6. Return meatballs to the skillet, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer covered for 10 to 15 minutes.
