Boil whole prunes in a saucepan covered with water, then add sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and cloves; cover, turn off heat, and steep for 15 minutes.

Once cooled sufficiently, drain the prunes, remove the cinnamon stick and pits, then refrigerate until ready to use.
