Instructions

  1. Cut a horizontal slit into the bottom of each bread slice to form a pocket, ensuring not to cut through the top.

  2. Combine softened cream cheese, 1 tablespoon milk, 1 tablespoon sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract in a bowl; adjust sugar to taste.

  3. Pipe the cream cheese mixture into each bread pocket, distributing it evenly.

  4. In a shallow bowl, whisk eggs with the remaining milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt; incorporate cinnamon or cardamom if desired.

  5. Melt butter in a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat.

  6. Dip each filled bread slice into the egg mixture to coat thoroughly, then transfer to the hot pan. Cook slices in batches until golden brown on both sides, approximately 3-4 minutes per side.
