Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 F.

  2. Sift flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt into a medium bowl.

  3. Cut in butter to create a fine crumbly mixture.

  4. Stir in beaten egg and milk until dry ingredients are just moistened.

  5. Spoon batter into a generously buttered 9-inch-square pan.

  6. Spoon both preserves over the batter, then swirl with a knife.
