Stovetop Rice Recipe

Instructions

Start boiling water in a medium saucepan. Add butter (if using) and salt, stirring until melted.

Once boiling, stir in the rice and allow the water to return to a light simmer.

Stir again, then cover the pot and reduce heat to low, maintaining a slight simmer.

After 17 minutes, check for tenderness and full liquid absorption; cooking may take up to 25 minutes.

When cooked, turn off heat and let the rice sit for a few minutes to absorb any remaining liquid.

Remove the lid, fluff the rice with a fork, and let it sit uncovered for 2 more minutes to dry slightly.

Serve hot.
