Warm 1 1/2 cups milk in a 3-quart saucepan over medium heat until bubbles form around the edges, avoiding a boil.

Stir in remaining milk, egg, butter, vanilla, cinnamon, and raisins; cook for 5 minutes, stirring until thick.
