Stir-Fried Lettuce

A flavorful Chinese-style stir-fry lettuce dish, perfect as a simple green vegetable side.

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry lettuce leaves, separating from the core, then cut them into 1-inch pieces.

  2. Combine rice wine or dry sherry, soy sauce, and sugar in a small bowl.

  3. Heat oil in a wok over medium-high heat. Add garlic, ginger, and 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes; stir-fry for 5-10 seconds until aromatic.

  4. Add the chopped lettuce to the wok and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until wilted. Sprinkle with salt.

  5. Re-stir the prepared sauce and add it to the wok. Stir-fry for 1-2 more minutes until the lettuce turns dark green.

  6. Taste and adjust seasonings; optionally add the remaining 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes or more soy sauce.

  7. Remove from heat and stir in sesame oil.
