Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat.

  2. Stir in steel cut oats and salt; cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

  3. Add hot water, stir to submerge oats, then cover tightly and let sit overnight (8-12 hours) with heat off.

  4. After soaking, remove lid, return saucepan to medium heat. Stir in milk and brown sugar, cook until simmering. Reduce heat to medium-low and continue stirring for 5 minutes until desired consistency.

  5. Serve the oats in bowls with desired toppings.
