To prepare steamed cabbage, choose between microwave or stovetop methods.
-
For microwave cooking: Place 1/4 thinly sliced small cabbage in a microwave-safe dish with 1/4 inch of water, cover, and microwave on high for 8 minutes, rotating halfway if needed. Drain, then stir in 2 tablespoons unsalted butter and kosher salt before serving.

For stovetop steaming: Start boiling water in a large pot with a steam basket or colander set just above the water line. Add 1/4 thinly sliced small cabbage to the basket, cover, and steam for 5 to 8 minutes until tender-crisp (some varieties may cook faster). Remove cabbage, then toss with 2 tablespoons unsalted butter and kosher salt and serve.
