Spicy Konnyaku: Japanese Yam Cake

A Japanese yam cake dish, spicy konnyaku features bite-sized pieces braised in an oil-free dashi broth and seasoned with shichimi togarashi.

Instructions

  1. Slice konnyaku into desired pieces.

  2. Heat a nonstick pan over medium heat, then add water, both soy sauces, and the sliced konnyaku. Stir.

  3. Stir in shichimi togarashi and braise for 6-8 minutes until most liquid evaporates; season with additional soy sauce if needed.

  4. Remove from heat and serve the spicy konnyaku, garnishing with more shichimi togarashi.
