Spicy Indian Steak

Instructions

  1. Mince gingerroot, onion, and garlic in a blender or food processor.

  2. Grind coriander, cumin, cayenne pepper, salt, and mustard seeds until powdered, then stir into the minced onion mixture.

  3. Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and spice mixture, reduce heat to medium-low, and sauté until fragrant.

  4. Remove the onion mixture from heat and cool for 10 minutes.

  5. Spoon the cooled mixture onto steaks, turning to coat.

  6. Refrigerate the covered steaks for 2 to 24 hours.

  7. Prepare and preheat an outdoor grill.

  8. Remove steaks from the marinade and cook over medium-high coals for 10 to 15 minutes, or until at least 145F.

  9. Remove steak from grill, cover with foil, and let stand for 5 minutes.

  10. Thinly slice steak across the grain to serve.
