Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F and grease 12 muffin cups.

  2. Whisk together flour, 3/4 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk sour cream, egg, melted butter, lemon zest, and 2 tablespoons lemon juice until smooth.

  4. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined and moistened.

  5. Fill muffin cups two-thirds full and bake for 18 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. Cool muffins in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack; poke each muffin several times.

  7. While muffins bake, combine 1/3 cup lemon juice and 1/4 cup sugar in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves.

  8. Drizzle the lemon syrup over the warm muffins.
