Sopapillas
A classic Southwest fried dough pastry, coated in cinnamon sugar and drizzled with honey, provides a sweet indulgence.

Instructions

Heat oil in a large saucepan to 365 F and line a plate with paper towels for draining.

Whisk sugar and cinnamon in a medium bowl; set aside.

In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt, then add lard.

Slowly pour in water and mix dough until just combined and semi-smooth.

On a floured surface, flatten dough into a circle, cut into four pieces, then roll each piece into a 6-inch, 1/4-inch thick circle.

Cut each 6-inch circle into four triangles.

Fry four dough pieces at a time for 3 to 4 minutes, flipping until golden and puffed; drain on the prepared plate.

Toss warm fried dough in the sugar-cinnamon mixture.

Serve immediately, drizzled with honey.
