Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt butter or bacon drippings with 4 tablespoons flour to form a light brown roux.

  2. Stir in broth or water and bring to a boil.

  3. Whisk 1 teaspoon flour with milk, add to the saucepan, then bring to a boil before reducing heat to simmer for a few minutes.

  4. Add lettuce, sugar, vinegar, and dill; bring to a boil then turn off heat.
