Sloppy Joe Macaroni and Cheese Casserole

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350F and lightly grease a 2 to 2 1/2-quart baking dish.

Cook macaroni according to package directions, then drain and rinse.

In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil; cook ground beef and onions until beef is no longer pink and onions are lightly browned, then drain excess grease.

Stir garlic powder, prepared mustard, ketchup, and brown sugar into the beef mixture; season with salt and pepper, then set aside.

In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter, then stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.

Add dry mustard and black pepper, cook for 2 minutes, then gradually add milk and cook until thickened.

Stir in shredded cheese and salt until smooth to create the cheese sauce.

Combine the drained macaroni with the cheese sauce.

Spoon the seasoned ground beef into the prepared baking dish, then top with the macaroni and cheese mixture.

Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and combine with bread crumbs; sprinkle over the macaroni and cheese layer.

Bake for 25 to 35 minutes, until hot and the topping is lightly browned.
