Instructions

  1. Start boiling water in a saucepan over high heat.

  2. Combine granulated sugar and cornstarch in a small bowl.

  3. Whisk the sugar and cornstarch mixture into the boiling water, reduce heat to medium, and cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.

  4. Whisk heavy cream into the thickened sauce.

  5. Remove from heat, then whisk in butter, vanilla extract, and salt until the butter melts.

  6. Strain the sauce to remove any lumps.
