Simple Mashed Turnips

Instructions

  1. Start boiling a large pot of salted water.

  2. Add 1 pound peeled and diced turnips to the boiling water; cook until fork-tender, about 20 to 30 minutes.

  3. Drain the turnips and return them to the pot. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper, and salt to taste.

  4. Mash the turnips with the butter and seasonings to your desired consistency, then taste, adjust seasonings, and serve hot.
