Serbian / Balkan Lenten Bread (Posna Pogača) Recipe

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 300 F.

Dissolve yeast in warm water, then stir in salt, sugar, and oil until completely mixed.

Add flour and mix until a cohesive dough forms, then knead until smooth.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled.

Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface, shape into a flat round, and transfer to a parchment-lined sheet pan.

Prick the loaf with a fork, rub the top with oil, and let stand, uncovered, for 15 minutes in a warm place.

Bake for 30 minutes or until an instant-read thermometer registers 190 F, then cool completely on a wire rack before cutting.
