Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 160C (320F).

  2. Start the syrup: Bring 4 cups of water to a boil, add granulated sugar and half a lemon, simmer for 10 minutes, then cool slightly.

  3. Cream softened butter; then mix in flour, powdered sugar, vanilla, baking powder, and semolina until a smooth dough forms.

  4. Add eggs to the dough and knead until smooth.

  5. Form dough into apricot-sized balls, flatten each slightly, press a nut into the center, and arrange on an ungreased tray.

  6. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.

  7. Immediately pour the warm syrup evenly over the hot baked goods.

  8. Allow to cool completely for the syrup to absorb; serve as is or with Turkish clotted cream.
