Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 F and lightly grease a 13x9x2-inch baking pan.

  2. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water.

  3. In a large bowl, combine milk, sugar, salt, garlic powder, celery salt, melted butter, thyme, rosemary, egg, and 2 cups of flour; add the yeast mixture and beat until smooth. Stir in the remaining flour and bacon.

  4. Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. Place the dough in a generously buttered large bowl, turning to coat.

  6. Cover and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 1/2 hours, or until doubled.

  7. Punch down the dough, cut into 24 uniform pieces, and shape into smooth balls. Arrange them in the prepared baking pan.

  8. Cover the rolls and let them rise for 45 to 60 minutes, or until nearly doubled.

  9. Whisk one egg with 1 tablespoon of water for an egg wash, then lightly brush over each roll.

  10. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown, or until an internal temperature of 185 to 190 F is reached.
