Savory Beef With Onions and Mushrooms

Instructions

Heat shortening or oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Sauté onions for 3-4 minutes until softened, then add mushrooms and cook for 8 minutes until tender and browned; remove vegetables and set aside.

Increase heat to medium-high and brown beef in the skillet for 8-10 minutes, turning to cook all sides.

Sprinkle flour, salt, pepper, and thyme over the beef.

Return the sautéed vegetables to the skillet, then add beef broth, vinegar, and ketchup; stir to blend.

Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 1.5 hours until the meat is tender.
