Preheat oven to 200 F to keep cooked pancakes warm.

Heat a griddle over medium heat, then reduce to low.

In a bowl, combine egg, milk, and melted butter (ensure butter is not hot), adding vanilla if desired.

In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

Pour the wet mixture into the dry, stirring to form a lumpy batter; let rest for 5 minutes, adding more milk if needed.

Add butter or oil to the griddle and adjust heat to medium-low.

Pour 1/2 cup batter for a large oval face and 1/8 cup for each ear onto the griddle.

Cook pancakes for a few minutes per side, flip, finish cooking, and transfer to the warm oven.

On a plate, arrange the pancake face and ears, then place two bacon slices as antlers.

Halve marshmallows for eyes, placing them on the face with a chocolate chip for each pupil.

Place a maraschino cherry at the bottom of the face for the nose.
