Royal Icing
An easy royal icing recipe yields a sweet, hard glaze made from egg whites and powdered sugar, ideal for decorating cookies.

Instructions

Beat 1/2 cup pasteurized liquid egg whites on high speed until foamy.

On low speed, gradually sift 4 cups confectioners' sugar into the egg whites until incorporated and smooth.

Add 1 teaspoon lemon juice, then beat on high speed for 5 to 10 minutes until the icing becomes very thick and forms stiff peaks.

For colored icing, separate into bowls and stir in gel food coloring.

Use the prepared royal icing to decorate cookies.
