Round White Bread Recipe

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375 F.

In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast.

Stir in milk, sugar, salt, and oil.

Gradually add bread flour until a sticky dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8 minutes, adding flour as needed, until firm and smooth.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to coat.

Cover and let rise for 1 hour in a warm place.

Punch down the risen dough.

Knead dough on a floured surface for 5 minutes to remove air bubbles.

Shape into a round loaf and place in a greased 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.

Cover and let rise for 45 minutes, or until doubled.

Slash the top of the loaf.

Optionally, brush the loaf with egg white for gloss or milk for a dark crust.

Bake for 45 minutes, or until hollow when tapped.

Brush hot loaf with melted butter for a soft crust.

Remove from dish and cool completely on a rack before slicing.
