Rich Vanilla Custard Sauce

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, flour, nutmeg or cinnamon, egg, melted butter, milk, and salt; whisk until blended.

  2. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon.

  3. Strain the sauce through a mesh sieve into a bowl. Stir in vanilla extract.

  4. Refrigerate, covered, until ready to serve.
