Rich Vanilla Custard Sauce
A creamy, custard-like vanilla sauce made with egg and milk or cream, which can be enhanced with cinnamon, nutmeg, or rum.

Instructions

In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, flour, nutmeg or cinnamon, egg, melted butter, milk, and salt; whisk until blended.

Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon.

Strain the sauce through a mesh sieve into a bowl. Stir in vanilla extract.

Refrigerate, covered, until ready to serve.
